So, you have heard that the next round of auditions for "American Idol" are coming to town next month and you want to go try out. You think you can teach yourself to sing quickly, but think again - can you really learn to sing as well as Adam Lambert or Kelly Clarkson, just with a few weeks' training? Didn't those two have a whole lifetime of singing before they went on the show? Do you want to be one of the "losers" that they put on television in the beginning of the season?
The key to learning how to sing is actually getting the right training. Almost everyone has a singer in them, just in some cases, it is buried way down deep. If you want to quickly learn singing, it can be done, but you need dedication and the proper training to do it. Don't fool yourself into thinking that you have the "pipes" just because you sound really good singing in your car.
Many people who find themselves on that show, being torn apart by Randy, Simon, and Paula (but not this year!), are singers who have never actually heard themselves sing. If you sing regularly and think that the world is hearing the same voice that you are hearing in your head, think again! Your voice sounds a lot different to other people.
Recording Yourself While Singing
That is one good reason to take the time to evaluate your own voice before you take your show on the road. If you want to teach yourself to sing quickly, then you should record yourself singing a rather ordinary song - the "National Anthem" or an old Beatles tune that you know by heart. If you sound good singing that, then try something a little more difficult and see if you can still hit the notes.
